To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Tesco is doubling the value <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/11\/28\/tesco-a-secret-second-clubcard-scheme-certain-people-can-join-22081670\/\">of its vouchers<\/a> when exchanged at over 100 different Reward Partners, which sounds like a great deal.<\/p>\n<p>Since a point has a standard valuation of 1p, it effectively means <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/23\/how-much-are-tesco-clubcard-points-worth-and-how-to-use-them-in-store-18490272\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2023\/03\/23\/how-much-are-tesco-clubcard-points-worth-and-how-to-use-them-in-store-18490272\/\">you\u2019ll get 2p per \u00a31 spent, so 2% back<\/a>. Say you\u2019re spending \u00a3400 this month on groceries, that\u2019s a total of \u00a38 if you spend at the likes of Pizza Express, Cineworld, or Hotels.com \u2013 \u00a34 more than normal.<\/p>\n<p>This beats the equivalent loyalty and points offerings at the other supermarkets. But I don\u2019t think this promotion, or any loyalty scheme, can justify switching supermarkets. <\/p>\n<p>Instead you\u2019re better off focusing on price when choosing where to shop.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"431\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-20206784 lazyload\" alt=\"Grocery Prices Reflect Rising Cost Of Living In UK\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"https:\/\/originalholdum.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/GettyImages-1240837006.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>There are a few tools to help you work out whether you can get your groceries for less elsewhere (Picture: Matthew Horwood\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>When consumer groups such as Which? track prices across the big chains, they often find discounters such as <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/aldi\/?ico=auto_link_lifestyle_P7_LNK1\">Aldi<\/a> and <a data-track=\"inline-tag-auto-link_article\" href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/lidl\/?ico=auto_link_lifestyle_P7_LNK2\">Lidl<\/a> around \u00a310 cheaper than Tesco on smaller baskets, while <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/asda\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/asda\/\">Asda<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/morrisons\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/morrisons\/\">Morrisons<\/a> are potentially \u00a320 to \u00a330 less on bigger trolleys. <\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s much more of a saving than getting the usual Clubcard points, let alone when they\u2019re doubled.<\/p>\n<p>Since these comparisons are looking at a set list of products, your own shopping needs will offer up different price variations, and indeed Tesco (or one of the others) could still work out the cheapest for you. <\/p>\n<p>What the research really highlights though, is that while points are a nice extra, the key driver to reducing your spend is the actual price.<\/p>\n<div class=\"factbox\" data-ico=\"factbox_article\" data-track-module=\"factbox_article\">\n<h2 class=\"factbox-title\">\n\t\t\t\tUK supermarket loyalty schemes at a glance\t\t\t<\/h2>\n<div class=\"factbox-content\">\n<p>Every scheme is different, with only a handful offering points. Most offer extra savings via the app, so make sure you check these before heading out to shop.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the key benefits each supermarket offers it members:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asda Rewards<\/strong><br \/>Variable cashback on selected products and \u2018missions\u2019<\/p>\n<p><strong>Co-op Member<br \/><\/strong>Coupons in app and member prices<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iceland Bonus Card<br \/><\/strong>\u00a31 back for every \u00a320 you load onto your card and member prices<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lidl Plus<br \/><\/strong>Coupons in app<\/p>\n<p><strong>M&amp;S Sparks<br \/><\/strong>Coupons in app and the chance to win your shop<\/p>\n<p><strong>Morrisons More<br \/><\/strong>Points on selected products and member prices<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sainsbury\u2019s Nectar<br \/><\/strong>One point per \u00a31 spent with extra points available on selected products via app and member prices<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tesco Clubcard<br \/><\/strong>One point per \u00a31 spent and member prices<\/p>\n<p><strong>MyWaitrose<br \/><\/strong>Coupons in app and free hot drink<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>There are a few tools to help you work out whether you can get your groceries for less elsewhere. <\/p>\n<p>Comparison sites <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trolley.co.uk\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.trolley.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Trolley.co.uk <\/a>and <a href=\"https:\/\/supermarketwizard.com\/groceries\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/supermarketwizard.com\/groceries\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Supermarket Wizard<\/a> are good ways to see if the items you buy cost less at alternative shops, and are particularly useful when looking for pricier items on promotion.<\/p>\n<p>You can also get better discounts than loyalty scheme offerings by using cut-price gift cards (available from sites like Cardyard) at the checkout. And you\u2019re generally looking at 2% to 4% cashback on your spend via sites such as HyperJar and JamDoughnut.<\/p>\n<p>Better still, you can use these alongside your Clubcard, Nectar and other cards to stack the offers.<\/p>\n<section class=\"metro-comment-cta\">\n<div class=\"metro-comment-cta__inner\"><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text-wrap\"><title>Comment now<\/title><span class=\"metro-comment-cta__text\">Which supermarket rewards scheme do you find most beneficial?<\/span><\/span><a class=\"metro-comment-cta__button\" href=\"#metro-comments-container\">Comment Now<\/a><\/div>\n<\/section>\n<p>However, something that does make loyalty cards an essential part of your shop is being able to take advantage of exclusive prices for members.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/sainsbury\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/sainsbury\/\">Sainsbury\u2019s<\/a>, Tesco, <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/morrisons\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/morrisons\/\">Morrisons <\/a>and Iceland all offer this, while <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/co-op\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/tag\/co-op\/\">Co-op<\/a> joined them <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/01\/16\/major-uk-supermarket-issues-one-week-deadline-axes-points-scheme-20120766\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/01\/16\/major-uk-supermarket-issues-one-week-deadline-axes-points-scheme-20120766\/\">by ditching 2% back on own-brand items<\/a> in favour of similar price cuts.<\/p>\n<p>In many cases these have replaced special offers for all, and mean if you don\u2019t have a card \u2013 or if you have one but don\u2019t swipe it \u2013 you\u2019ll miss out.<\/p>\n<p>This can be a pain if you are mixing and matching the supermarkets you visit.
